Africa’s New Medicines Regulator Wants to be More than Another Approval Channel
The African Medicines Agency began operations in Kigali in October 2025 with the goal of improving the speed, trust, and coordination of medicine regulation across 55 African Union states. It aims to address the complex health policy challenges posed by fragmented national regulations and regional initiatives.
