A coordinated attack by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) on a prison in Puerto Vallarta freed 23 inmates using explosives and vehicles, killing a guard. Seventeen prisoners remain at large. The attack occurred around the time of the capture of cartel leader El Mencho in Tapalpa.
