Police in northern Brazil indicted a stepfather and mother after DNA evidence confirmed the stepfather fathered the child of a 10-year-old girl who became pregnant following repeated sexual abuse. The stepfather remains in preventive custody while the mother faces charges of omission. The case came to light through a tip to the Disque 100 child protection hotline.
